Mark Zuckerberg is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Meta, according to the company’s investor relations profile.

Meta says the company was originally founded as Facebook in 2004. The current company name should therefore not obscure the history of its original service.

Zuckerberg leads the company whose work includes AI research and the Llama model family. The work of those models belongs to teams across Meta; it should not be attributed to a single person.

Mark Zuckerberg and Meta have faced controversy over the use of copyrighted material to train Llama models. In litigation brought by authors and publishers, plaintiffs alleged that Meta used books without permission, while Meta has defended the training as fair use. The appearance of Zuckerberg’s name in the plaintiffs’ allegations does not establish liability. These are disputed claims in litigation and should be distinguished from a final judicial finding.
