Mustafa Suleyman is a British AI entrepreneur who co-founded DeepMind and Inflection AI. As of this article’s review on September 20, 2026, he serves as Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI.

From DeepMind to Microsoft

Suleyman co-founded DeepMind in 2010 before its acquisition by Google. He later co-founded Inflection AI and joined Microsoft in 2024 to lead a new organization focused on Copilot and other consumer AI products.

Current role

Suleyman leads the direction of Microsoft AI and its consumer products. This does not mean that every Microsoft model or AI technology was personally developed by him; the work belongs to multiple teams and partnerships.

Controversies and public debate

The move of Suleyman and several Inflection AI employees to Microsoft, together with a licensing agreement, drew scrutiny from the UK Competition and Markets Authority over whether the arrangement functioned like a merger that could affect competition. This was regulatory scrutiny of a transaction and its structure, not a finding of personal wrongdoing by Suleyman.
