The central difference is the breadth of capability, not simply performance. A narrow system may outperform humans in a specific task without being able to transfer its knowledge effectively to unrelated domains. AGI would require broader and more flexible abilities, but researchers do not share one universally accepted definition or test for determining when it has been achieved.
