The company, Anthropic, was not just trying to build another ChatGPT clone. Its mission from the start was different: build AI that is safe and trustworthy, even if that means moving slower on release.

What is Claude?

Claude is a chat tool from Anthropic, built on a large language model that generates text in response to what you write, the same basic principle as ChatGPT.

The difference shows in the details: how much text it can handle in one conversation, how it refuses sensitive requests, and a writing style that tends to be more measured and less abrupt than its competitors.

What is it good at?

Long documents. Claude can handle very long texts in a single conversation, which makes it well suited to reviewing a full contract or analysing a large report in one pass.

Careful writing. Many users notice its style feels closer to natural human writing, with less stiff phrasing.

Code. It is considered one of the strongest tools for understanding, writing and debugging complex code.

File analysis. Upload a document or spreadsheet and ask precise questions about it.

Where does it fall short?

Sometimes overly cautious. It may decline a perfectly legitimate request just because it touches a sensitive topic, a direct cost of the company’s strict safety approach.
